BECKLEY, W.Va. — Park rangers and resource managers are working to clean up remnants of a Sunday morning train derailment in Fayette County.
The crash occurred along the CSX rail line near the Fayette Station area of New River Gorge National River. Reports from CSX indicate that eight cars carrying coal were involved in the incident. Some coal spillage made its way into Marr Banch, a tributary of the New River.
Resource managers of the park surveyed the site for potential resource damage and noted containment efforts, which are underway by CSX and include silt fencing to catch any new contaminants that might enter the water.
