CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — West Virginia’s two major teachers unions have merged into one organization.
The American Federation of Teachers-West Virginia (AFT-WV) and the West Virginia Education Association (WVEA) have combined to become Education West Virginia.
“Today marks the first official day of the new, merged organization — an exciting new chapter for education employees in West Virginia,” Education West Virginia Co-President Dale Lee said in a video.
“Education West Virginia is not merely merging AFT-West Virginia and WVEA,” Co-President Kristie Skidmore said. “We are building from the successes of the past and taking the lessons learned to build a stronger advocate for education employees and the students they serve.”
