State kicks in grant for first multi-purpose field in Princeton

By Charles Owens, Bluefield Daily Telegraph

PRINCETON — Area economic development officials have secured state funding for the first of several new athletic fields planned for Princeton.

Work is already underway on the first multi-purpose field, which is being constructed near the new wave pool and aquatic center. A $15,000 Local Economic Development Assistance grant was recently awarded to help with the construction, according to Princeton Economic Development Authority Executive Director Samuel Lusk.

Lusk said the funding was secured by Del. Joe Ellington, R-Mercer, and subsequently approved by Gov. Patrick Morrisey.

“The check is for $15,000, and it’s for equipment for the first multi-purpose athletic field we are working on,” Lusk said. “So we’ll match it dollar for dollar so it will be a total of $30,000. That will be used for practice goals and other equipment needed for that first field.”

Lusk said bleachers and other equipment also will be purchased for the first multi-purpose athletic field with the state grant.
