CHARLESTON, W.Va. – With Halloween just one week away, the West Virginia Department of Tourism welcomes visitors to explore the new, statewide Paranormal Trail, an activity designed to help thrill-seekers discover 18 of the state’s most mysterious sites. The trail continues to receive remarkable participation with more than 5,000 participant sign-ups, with visitors checking in from 46 states and six countries.
“We are so excited to offer this one-of-a-kind Halloween adventure right here in Almost Heaven,” said West Virginia Department of Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby. “The Paranormal Trail makes the perfect spooky adventure for guests of all kinds and now features 18 eerie locations throughout the state. From haunted hotels and ghost tours to chilling trails and cryptid museums, you’re sure to discover an experience like no other.”
The West Virginia Paranormal Trail has already received national recognition, with mentions in top-tier travel publications such as Thrillist and Travel and Tour World. To experience the haunts of West Virginia and uncover hair-raising tales, travelers can register to participate online and instantly receive the digital passport via email or text. - Check in at three or more locations and receive a custom sticker.
- Check in at 10 or more locations and receive an official beanie.
- Check in at all locations and receive a limited edition letterpress print.

- Register to get your West Virginia Paranormal Trail Passport by filling out your contact information.
- After signing up, the digital passport for the Paranormal Trail will be delivered to your phone via text or to the email provided.
- Explore the haunts of West Virginia! Open the passport on your phone, scroll to find the location you’re visiting and check in to mark it off your list.
