Scott Depot man is now known as ‘popcorn guy’ after viral video at Rural King

By Maggie Susa, The Wayne County News

CROSS LANES, W.Va. — A video of a popcorn machine on fire at a Rural King store went viral earlier this month. The star: 39-year-old Jayme Ferguson of Scott Depot.

While the popcorn machine is on fire, creating a lot of smoke, Ferguson slowly walks in front of the camera, looking at his phone instead of the flames. Viewers dubbed him the “most unbothered man on the internet.”

“I think it’s great that so many people can watch it and either get a laugh or enjoyment out of it and poke fun at it to lighten up their day, ‘cause you never know what somebody else is going through. Mentally, emotionally … and everybody needs a laugh,” he said.

The video took place between noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Rural King store in Cross Lanes. Ferguson said he visits Rural King about two to three times a month and looks forward to the free popcorn when he is there. He says he usually gets a bag when he comes in to snack on while he shops and a bag to-go when he leaves.
