CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The independent presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has submitted more than 19,000 signatures to the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office.

That’s more than double the 7,947 signatures needed to appear on the state’s general election ballot, but the signatures have to be verified by county clerks throughout the state by Aug. 26, according to Dave Cook, general counsel for the office of West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner.

“We take each of those petitions for the respective counties, we send those out to the counties, and then they verify the signatures off of the voter registration records,” he said.

The Kennedy campaign dropped off its signatures in Charleston on Friday, according to a press release.
