Republicans dominate West Virginia statewide races; voters narrowly support constitutional amendment

CHARLESTON, W.V.a. — Republican candidates dominated statewide elections on Tuesday, according to unofficial results.

Republican Kris Warner was elected West Virginia secretary of state; Republican Mark Hunt was elected state auditor; Republican Kent Leonhardt was re-elected state agriculture commissioner; Republican John McCuskey was elected state attorney general; and Republican Larry Pack, who ran unopposed, was elected state treasurer.

As of press time Tuesday evening, with more than 40% of the state’s precincts reporting, unofficial results were as follows:

  • Warner defeated Democrat Thornton Cooper with more than 70% of the vote.
  • Hunt defeated Democrat Mary Ann Roebuck Claytor with more than 65% of the vote.
  • Leonhardt defeated Democrat Deborah Stiles with more than 70% of the vote.
  • McCuskey defeated Democrat Teresa Toriseva with more than 70% of the vote.

Additionally, voters appeared to narrowly support an amendment to the West Virginia Constitution.
