BECKLEY, W.Va. — Raleigh County West Virginia Education Association President Wendy Peters says she believes Gov. Jim Justice’s pay raise proposal and PEIA task force promise are steps in the right direction in getting teachers and school personnel back into the classroom.
Following a Thursday afternoon meeting attended by Raleigh County teachers and union leaders, Peters said it was important she meet with them to provide them with accurate information on what decisions are currently under way.
She said Gov. Justice’s 5 percent pay raise may not have been their main concern, — that was to find a funding mechanism for PEIA — but she believes his proclamation forming a task force to seek fixes for PEIA will be what will help employees in the long run.
