CHARLESTON (WV News) — A Texas cell phone company has paid for the posters displaying the phrase “In God We Trust” that are now required in West Virginia schools under a new law.
Patriot Mobile, which markets itself as a Christian conservative wireless provider, spent about $10,000 to cover the cost statewide, Sen. Mike Azinger, R-Wood, said Monday during an event at the State Capitol.
“Patriot Mobile paid for all of the — for the whole state — for every poster in the state, every one we’re handing out,” Azinger said. “Patriot Mobile put, I think, $10,000 down.”
The company has supported similar initiatives in other states, including donating more than 50,000 posters featuring the Ten Commandments across Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana.
Senate Bill 280 requires public elementary and secondary schools, charter schools and state-supported higher education institutions to display a “durable poster or framed copy” of the U.S. national motto.
