Parkersburg’s City Park to host West Virginia State Honey Festival this weekend

PARKERSBURG, W.Va.  — The 2017 West Virginia State Honey Festival will be Saturday and Sunday at City Park in Parkersburg.

The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children ages 7-12 years and free for ages 6 and under.

Now in its 37th year, the honey festival will feature a variety of activities, entertainments and displays. The focus is to promote the honey industry, as well as having crafts, entertainment, a zipline, Henry Cooper Log Cabin tours and other activities, organizers said.

The Honey Festival is now in its fourth year as a fundraiser and program of the Wood County Recreation Commission.

The festival will feature crafts, a honey and wax show, honey and beeswax products, honey extraction and live beehive demonstrations, candle dipping and cooking demonstrations, historical presentations and live bee beards by Steve Conlon.

There will also be a West Virginia Honey Car Show by Pioneer Antique Auto Club. The 25th annual Antique Car and Truck Show will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at City Park. The rain date is Sunday.

Registration for the car show will be 9 a.m. to noon. The entry fee is $10 for the show and admission to the Honey Festival. A free t-shirt will be given to the first 125 entries. Cars will be judged about one hour after arrival. All cars and trucks are welcome, but only those from 1992 or older will be judged.

Prizes will be awarded for Top 40, Best of Show, Best Original, Best Street Rod, Honey Festival Queen and Honey Festival Princess.

The West Virginia Honey Princess Pageant will be 10 a.m. Saturday at City Park. The pageant is open to girls ages 8-12 and contestants will wear age-appropriate Sunday best or party dresses.

9 a.m.: Festival opens with opening ceremony; Arts and crafts, honey exhibits and food concessions open; West Virginia Honey Car Show registration (Car Show Area)

9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: West Virginia Honey Car Show (Car Show Area)

10 a.m.: West Virginia Honey Festival Princess Pageant (main stage)

12:30 p.m.: String Bandits (main stage)

2 p.m.: Makenna Hope (main stage)

3 p.m.: Sydney Jo Sharp (main stage)

6 p.m.: Festival closes

SUNDAY

10 a.m.: Festival opens; Arts and crafts, honey exhibits and Honey Sundae Ice Cream Booth opens

1 p.m.: The Smith Family (main stage)

2 p.m.: Mixx

4 p.m.: Still Crazy

5 p.m.: Festival closes
