MATEWAN, W.Va. — Two years ago it was no more than an old, dilapidated and abandoned large country store building in North Matewan awaiting inevitable demolition.
After months of painstaking and exhaustive restoration work, however, it now serves as a thriving neighborhood convenience store as well as a three-unit lodging location.
As of Nov. 1, it will additionally be a place where both the hungry local resident and out-of-town wayfarer can drop by for a sub sandwich.
While many local and lifetime residents of southern West Virginia have to date taken advantage of the massive tourism boon having been generated by the Hatfield McCoy Trail System and accordingly have either built all-new lodging accommodations and related businesses or renovated old ones to meet the huge demand, the establishment of the three-in-one business known as “Off the Beaten Trails Quik Stop” had dissimilar beginnings, according to Jessica Jefferies-Tannert.
