MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Ground is officially broken in Morgantown for a new $3.2 million residential facility with PACE Enterprises, a company centered on finding employment for people with disabilities.
Wednesday marked the start of construction for PACE Place, a living space that will include 12 private suites and shared common areas, a kitchen and laundry. The space is entirely independent living. The building will be on the original property of PACE Enterprises at 420 Pleasant Hill Rd. in Star City.
“PACE has always been about finding employment for people, but now we are thinking about when they leave work. Where will they live? Where are they going home to?” Chairman of the Board Doreen Seamon said.
The reality is that people with disabilities are living longer, and so a more proactive approach to their financial and housing security as adults is needed.
“There is a real need as our individuals with disabilities are growing older, and thus their families are growing older, for a way for them to do their part and have a place that is affordable, safe and independent,” Director of Marketing Joseph Lefkay said.
The estimated time of completion for the facility is between nine and 12 months. In the next two months, evaluations will begin for potential residents, which will then be followed by an official application process.
