BECKLEY, W.Va. — J. Damon Cain, an accomplished news executive at the Denver Post for 13 years, has been appointed editor of The Register-Herald of Beckley and its sister publications, effective Nov. 16.
Publisher Frank Wood said Cain was selected in a national search for an editor with proven print and online journalism skills to help The Register-Herald company continue to grow through quality content in the digital news era.
“We’re delighted to have Damon join The Register-Herald family,” said Wood. “His vast editorial experience and various leadership roles, including association with two national award-winning newspapers, have prepared him to lead and inspire the accomplished team of journalists at The Register-Herald and its other print and digital media products.”
Cain mostly recently was managing editor for presentation and design at the Denver Post, where he helped direct photo coverage that won the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography in 2010 and 2012.
Cain also served as director of news design at the Raleigh, N.C., News & Observer for nine years, contributing to that newspaper’s 1996 Pulitzer for public service…
