Naval Aviator Lt. Jay Ross Manown officially returns to Kingwood (West Virginia)

KINGWOOD, W.Va. — Community members around the county lined Route 7 to pay their respects as local service members, law enforcement and naval officials transported the remains of Lt. Jay Ross Manown Jr. to Kingwood Funeral Home.

In May of this year, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced that the U.S. Navy Reserve Lt. Jay R. Manown Jr., 26, of Kingwood, West Virginia, killed during World War II, was accounted for on May 23.

Thanks to the efforts of the BentProp Project (now known as Project Recover), with members from Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the University of Delaware, and the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), Manown has successfully returned home, officials said.
