FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Saturday afternoon was full of good time and rocket launches at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Education Resource Center in Fairmont.
Students from the West Virginia School of the Deaf and Blind got the opportunity to participate in three different STEM activities.
“Today is a student workshop for 17 students from the School of the Deaf and Blind,” said Todd Ensign, program manager at the NASA ERC. “They’re here today for a kickoff.
“This event acts as both a workshop to introduce them to the initiatives as well as a celebration to the beginning of our season. Students will have the opportunity to build model rockets. The other thing is new to the School of the Deaf and Blind is our VEX IQ program.
“It’s an elementary and middle school robotics program. Students get to build and design their own robots that will perform specific tasks. The third program being shown off today is our aerial drone program. This whole program is based off of communications with hand signals and gestures.”
Student Kimberly Goff said she was really looking forward to the robotics section.
