CHARLESTON, W.Va. — One man posed next to a bulldog.
The other man posed like one.
Attorney General Patrick Morrisey and Gov. Jim Justice delivered two very different victory speeches Tuesday night after they won their races to become West Virginia’s next governor and U.S. senator, respectively.
Justice lovingly, repeatedly rubbed the head of his pet bulldog, Babydog, during an off-the-cuff speech at The Greenbrier, the historic resort he owns. Justice’s remarks were just over 10 minutes long and offered no policy objectives for his upcoming six-year Senate term.
“Absolutely, with all in me tonight, I proudly — like you can’t imagine — proudly accept with honor beyond belief — this absolute opportunity to serve as your United States senator,” Justice said.
Over 200 miles away at The Martinsburg Roundhouse, Morrisey gave a prepared speech more than twice as long in which he depicted himself as a dogged opponent of government regulations.
