Morrisey addresses new initiatives, other current topics in Beckley

BECKLEY, W.Va. — West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey visited Beckley Monday to announce two new initiatives by his administration.

The governor also fielded questions on several current topics during a media availability in the Raleigh County Commission chambers.

At the outset, Morrisey said he wanted to discuss two “important” initiatives. The first was energy-related.

“We’d like to listen to the input from people across the state,” Morrisey said. “We’re in southern West Virginia, where energy is really important. If you care about coal, if you care about gas, if you care about manufacturing, you should care about the energy policy that the state is putting together right now.

“We’re trying to more than triple the power capacity, the generation of energy, so that West Virginia can become one of the single-best exporters of energy and electricity in the world,” he continued. “And, we’re thrilled with the reaction we’re getting.
