MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. — Stacy Chapman, 61, appeared nervous as she looked out over a crowd of more than 60 people who gathered on Nov. 7 at the historic White Church in Middleway to hear her hastily organized presentation opposing the proposed water bottling facility that is planned to take root on the nearby former property of the shuttered 3M printing plate factory.
As a labor and delivery nurse for more than three decades, Chapman told the packed room, she was accustomed to “protecting moms and their infants” but now feels that it is the village of Middleway that “needs protecting more than ever.”
“I’ve never done anything like this before,” she said, adding that she was motivated to action because, “I cannot fathom the village of Middleway’s future when the proposed water bottling plant is operational. It’s completely out of what I can see for Middleway.”
