HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Tuesday evening in the Cam Henderson Center was a night more than a decade in the making.
Marshall football players came dressed in their green jerseys and most played as themselves in the new EA College Football 25 video game, but the twist was that they were matched up against fans of all ages at a launch party hosted by the Thundering Herd football program.
“It was cool. First time playing, and it was a unique experience,” said Colin Farrell, who lost to defensive back Ahmere Foster, 20-0. Both played as Marshall. “I think all the hype stood up.”
That was one of six games to be played between fans and Marshall players, each in front of a host of fellow Herd players and fans crowded around each screen. Others watched from the stands and viewed the games on the video board in the Cam Henderson Center, which had been lowered for the event.
Herd quarterback Braylon Braxton said he played the game for around five hours Monday night after the digital version had been released and had a few more games lined up once he left the launch party.
“I’ve got to play Carl Chester, Bralon Brown, some other teammates lined up and then my brother, too. He plays at Arkansas,” Braxton said. “Road to Glory, I need that Heisman. Twelve-team playoff? I’m winning it all. I might win the Heisman and the Biletnikoff at the same time.”
