MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — With West Virginia University facing “enormous budget challenges,” Provost Joyce McConnell has added management expert Mark Gavin from the College of Business and Economics to her leadership team.

“We must have expertise in our office to face fiscal issues head-on,” McConnell said. “With gaps in our staff at several levels, we are excited to welcome Mark to our office to help us surmount both budget and facilities challenges with creative, forward-thinking solutions.”

Gavin’s role as associate provost for budget, facilities and strategic initiatives was announced earlier this summer as part of a larger forward-focused reorganization of the Provost’s Office and became effective this month.

“I am both honored and excited to join a talented and committed team in the Provost’s Office. Though in a different role, I appreciate the opportunity to continue serving an institution that I have come to love and care about deeply,” Gavin said.

Gavin most recently served as the associate dean for graduate programs, research and executive education in B&E. He is an award-winning and widely published scholar in management, having led several professional organizations in the field. He serves on the editorial board of numerous relevant journals. Prior to joining the WVU faculty in 2011, Gavin spent 16 years in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University.

“I have been privileged to work with an extraordinary team since I became provost,” McConnell said. “I look forward to working together with even more energy and vision directed towards everything from ongoing renovations of our academic facilities to the continued bolstering of faculty and student research in all disciplines. With Mark on board and others in the office positioned to maximize their strengths, we are poised to make an even greater positive impact on our campus in the coming years.”
