CHARLESTON, W.Va.  — It was Monongalia and Preston County Day at the state legislature March 21, and residents spent the day expressing thoughts on how state government can help the counties.

The day began with the smell of Preston County wafting through the Capitol, where Chef Jean-Manuel Guillot and students from Preston High School served buckwheat cakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy and eggs to about 600 people.

After breakfast, representatives of the counties, including county commissioners and administrators, county economic development authorities, chambers of commerce, WVU officials, Christian Help Family Resource Networks and others met with officials and the governor. Displays set up by organizations highlighted the counties’ strengths in the halls of the Capitol.

Many counties have joint days at the legislature, but it was the first time Mon and Preston have been recognized on the same day.
