POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — A lantern convoy arrived in Point Pleasant on Wednesday to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Point Pleasant with the presentation of a lantern.
The lantern convoy, comprised of representatives from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and the West Virginia America 250th Commission, began its journey at the Greenbrier County Courthouse at 8 a.m.
The convoy aimed to recognize the voyage colonial troops took from Greenbrier County to where the battle occurred in Point Pleasant.
The group made stops at five courthouses along the way, as well as the State Capitol building. The ceremonial lantern and a certificate were presented at each stop, along with proclamations from Gov. Jim Justice and the West Virginia 250th Commission.
