Justice Assistance Grant program funds go to drug task forces, school resource officers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A total of $1,125,875 in federal Justice Assistance Grant program funds have been awarded to 36 projects statewide. The money will fund Prevention Resource Officers and drug task forces around West Virginia.

These funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs. They are administered by the West Virginia Division of Justice and Community Services, which is part of the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.

The funding was awarded as follows, according to the office of Gov. Jim Justice:

Barbour County Commission, $18,000, to provide one Prevention Resource Officer at Philip Barbour High School; Cabell County Commission, $62,100, to provide for officer salaries to continue a drug task force; Greenbrier County Commission $20,700, for officer salaries to continue a drug task force; Hampshire County Commission, $18,000, to provide one Prevention Resource Officer at Hampshire County High School; Hancock County Commission, $36,000, to provide for two Prevention Resource Officers at Oak Glen High School and Weir High School, and $41,400.00, to provide for officer salaries to continue a drug task force; City of Bridgeport, $18,000, to provide one Prevention Resource Officer at Bridgeport High School, and $41,400, to provide for officer salaries to continue the Greater Harrison Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force; City of Clarksburg, $18,000, to provide for one Prevention Resource Officer at Robert C. Byrd High School;

City of Ripley, $18,000, to provide one Prevention Resource Officer at Ripley High School; City of Ravenswood $18,000, to provide one Prevention Resource Officer at Ravenswood High School; City of South Charleston, $18,000, one Prevention Resource Officer at South Charleston High School, and $62,100, to continue a  drug task force, and $36,000, for two Prevention Resource Officers (PRO) at Capital High School and Stonewall Jackson Middle School; City of Dunbar $18,000, one Prevention Resource Officer at Dunbar Middle School; City of Nitro $18,000, to support a Prevention Resource Officer at Nitro High School;

Lewis County Commission, $18,000, to provide one Prevention Resource Officer at Lewis County High School; Logan County Commission, $41,400, to provide for officer salaries to continue a drug task force; Marshall County Commission $20,700, to provide for officer salaries to continue a multi-jurisdictional drug and violent crime task force; City of Bluefield, $41,400, to provide for officer salaries to continue a drug task force; Mineral County Commission, $18,000, one Prevention Resource Officer at Frankfort High School; Monroe County Commission, $18,000, to provide one Prevention Resource Officer at James Monroe High School; Ohio County Commission, $41,400, for drug task force salaries, and $18,000 for a Prevention Resource Officer at Wheeling Park High School; City of Wheeling, $18,000, Prevention Resource Officer at Bridge Street Middle School; Putnam County Commission, $18,000; Prevention Resource Officer at Poca High School; Winfield Police Department, $18,000, Prevention Resource Officer at Winfield High School;

City of Beckley Police Department, $18,000, Prevention Resource Officer at Woodrow Wilson High School; City of Beckley, $20,700, for drug task force salaries; Roane County Commission, $18,000, Prevention Resource Officer at Roane County High School; Upshur County Commission, $18,000, Prevention Resource Officer at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School; Wetzel County Commission, $18,000, Prevention Resource Officer at Valley High School; City of Vienna, $41,400, for drug task force salaries; City of Williamstown, $18,000, Prevention Resource Officer at Williamstown High School; Wood County Commission, $18,000, Prevention Resource Officer at Blennerhassett Middle School; West Virginia State Police $223,175, for drug task force salaries.
