JCDA’s board dissolved; County Commission to reconfigure it in August

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — The Jefferson County Commission voted unanimously on July 8 to dissolve and reconfigure the board of the Jefferson County Development Authority (JCDA), drawing criticism from some former board members.

Commissioners say the change was necessary to ensure the JCDA becomes an efficient organization focused on bringing business investment to the county while some former board members call it a disruptive overreach.

After hearing from county counsel Nathan Cochran that recent changes to state code give the commission greater flexibility in determining the number of members on the development authority board, the commission voted to support a motion by Commissioner Mike Mood to dissolve the 15-member body and reconstitute it with nine members.
