CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County judge will decide if West Virginia’s insurance policy will cap at $1 million total for the dozens of lawsuits regarding a hidden camera in the locker room of the West Virginia State Police Academy in Institute.
More than 80 women have led lawsuits in the matter, in addition to a class-action lawsuit.
In spring 2023, then-Gov. Jim Justice confirmed a camera had been placed inside the women’s locker room at the Academy. Three troopers, according to Justice, found a thumb drive with videos from the camera and destroyed the evidence.
According to court documents, the trooper who placed the camera died in 2016.
