Voters in this area will have several choices to make when they decide who will represent them in the West Virginia Legislature for the next two years. Some choices are clear, while others are less so.
State Senate, 5th District: This one is easy. Sen. Mike Woelfel, D-Cabell, is finishing his first term. Before being elected to the Senate four years ago, Woelfel had served as a Cabell County assistant prosecutor and as the county’s juvenile court referee from 1980 to 2010.
The 5th District covers all of Cabell County and the northern portion of Wayne County. The winner of this race will serve alongside current Sen. Robert Plymale, D-Wayne, who is not up for re-election this cycle.
