Ground broken on long-awaited Inwood park

INWOOD — After more than a decade of planning, Berkeley County officials, community leaders and residents gathered Thursday for the groundbreaking of Inwood Park, a 30-acre recreational space that leaders say will transform South Berkeley County.

Berkeley County Commission President Eddie Gochenour called the event a milestone, noting that the site once served as campgrounds for the Inwood Fair in the late 1800s, with thousands traveling to the site every year by train for the fair’s circuses, bowling and shooting galleries.

“It’s a round world; things come back around,” Gochenour said. “So many families are going to make magical memories right here for decades to come.”
