MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey attended a regular WVU Board of Governors (BOG) meeting on Sept. 12 to discuss state initiatives to improve the standard of living, artificial intelligence technology and state and University communication. Morrisey said this was the first time a member of the state legislature has attended a BOG meeting.
Morrisey addressed the BOG and said he feels “very good about the direction West Virginia is heading,” but said “major” changes need to occur.
“We have to be cognizant of where we are to lift ourselves up,” Morrisey said. “We can’t beat our chests when we win one battle. We have to focus on [the] long-term.”
He discussed plans to target the state’s low income, education attainment and population rate by creating jobs using West Virginia’s natural resources.
“We have to grow or we have to die. …We talked about power tech. We talked about data centers, energy policy, rural health transformation. There’s so much there, right? Just right there is an opportunity to help WVU and the state,” Morrisey said.
