Fresh snow greeting skiers in WV mountains

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — After getting a fresh half-foot of snow Tuesday, Jan. 30, West Virginia’s 5 downhill ski resorts are all expecting more through today, Saturday, Feb. 2 and 3, making for some prime-time skiing and boarding over the Super Bowl Weekend.

Here’s a look at what’s happening outside and inside this weekend in the Mountain State ski scene. from the Mountain State’s largest resort Snowshoe Mountain and smallest at Wheeling’s Oglebay Resort to Canaan Valley, home to two downhill ski resorts, Timberline and Canaan and the state’s largest cross country ski area, White Grass.

Winterplace

Close to home, Winterplace in Ghent now has all 27 trails open as well as its 18-lane snowtubing and two terrain parks. There’s also live music from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, with Clinton Scott in the Snowdrift Lounge. There will also be a tap takeover with Bell’s Brewery out of Michigan at Mickey’s Mountain Cafe.

For kids grades 6 to 12 this weekend, the Alpine Ministries and Winterplace Ski Resort team up for a faith-based Winter Camp on Friday through Sunday, Feb. 2-4. Call Alpine Ministries at 800-806-2180.
