HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The state tournament field is set after the conclusion on Saturday of all region championships across the state.
The top four wrestlers in 14 weight divisions across the four regions will compete in Class A/AA and Class AAA from Feb. 29 to March 2 at Huntington’s Mountain Health Arena. Brackets for both classes and all weight divisions will be compiled on Sunday, according to information on the web site wvmat.com.
In Class AAA’s Region 4, Parkersburg South took the team title, followed by Parkersburg, Cabell Midland, Huntington, Ripley, Hurricane and Spring Valley.
Robert Shockey led the Knights by winning the 190-pound weight class. Also qualifying for the Knights are L.J. Anderson (second, 113), Isaac Wiseman (second, 120), Jackson Jitima (fourth, 126), Levi Wiseman (fourth, 144), Braxton Johnson (third, 157), Carson Kohl (second, 165), Elijah Pratt (third, 175) and Matthew Edwards (third, 215).
For Huntington, Trevor Morgan (second, 106), Owen Woodrum (third, 113), Da’Veirre Norwood (fourth, 120), Ben Barrett (second, 126), Garrin Arthur (second, 138), Joe Riggs (first, 144), Jeff Hood (fourth, 150), Jake Jeffers (fourth, 157) and Rowan Dunham (second, 175) advance to state.
