FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The latest chapter in one of West Virginia’s newest postseason rivalries, No. 2 Fairmont Senior hosted No. 14 and defending champion Independence at East-West Stadium for a WVSSAC AA semifinal matchup.
Fairmont Senior managed to recover from its three-turnover first half to come away with the win over Independence and go back to Wheeling Island for the second time in three years 42-21.
“Sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you,” Independence Head Coach John Lilly said. “Congratulations to them, they earned it. We were the champs until somebody took it from us, and they took it from us.”
Fairmont Senior running back Dylan Ours seemingly took the Polar Bears on his back, rushing for 192 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries. He also had two receptions for 14 yards.
