FAIRMONT — On Thursday morning, Corey Hayes had no idea a new park designed and built around accessibility was set to open later that evening.
When his partner, Allie, told him about it, he was ecstatic. Hayes’ 12-year-old son is in a wheelchair.
“I think it’s a great idea,” Hayes said. “Over the last few years, my son and I both kind of wish that we would see more parks like this. With him being in a wheelchair, it’s kind of difficult because you got to wheel them around. Some of the other parks don’t really have grounding that works for wheelchairs, it’s rubber tires or wood chips and things like that. It’s kind of hard to push them around. So it’s a good thing, and we’re really glad that there’s something.”
