CHARLESTON, W.Va. — For the past several months, Gov. Jim Justice has been discussing the possibility of calling the West Virginia Legislature into a special session to have lawmakers take up his proposal for an additional personal income tax cut.
Although the governor previously said the special session could coincide with interim meetings scheduled to take place Aug. 25-27, plans have changed, according to information from the directors of communications for the West Virginia Senate and House of Delegates.
“For your planning purposes, we do not anticipate an extraordinary session to coincide with August interim committee meetings,” reads a memo sent out to legislators and staff on Thursday. “The items to be considered for a special session require additional vetting and ample time available to them for consideration later in the year.”
Del. Clay Riley, R-Harrison, said the special session being pushed back is not necessarily an indication lawmakers don’t want to proceed with the additional tax cut.
