Employment Opportunities: State Journal looking for reporters

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The State Journal, a statewide, weekly newspaper that focuses on business, government, energy and law in West Virginia, is looking for reporters.

“Applicants should enjoy the challenge of covering a diverse state with a unique set of challenges and opportunities. Our stories are picked up by national news services and our reporters speak about their subjects on television and radio. We break daily news online and on social media, and we tell the full story with analysis in print each week,” a company spokesperson said.

The State Journal is owned by West Virginia Media, a company that includes television stations in West Virginia’s major markets. A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field is preferred. Candidates must be familiar with AP style. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with several different deadlines each day is a must. Successful candidates are reporters who can generate their own story ideas and compete for front page space. The ideal candidate will work to become known as the best on his or her beat in the entire state. Two years of experience preferred.

To apply, send cover letter, resume and three work samples to Human Resources, The State Journal, PO Box 11848, Charleston, WV, 25339 or by email to [email protected]. The State Journal is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
