BECKLEY, W.Va. — Local physician Dr. Ayne Amjad joined impassioned Minden residents Thursday evening to issue a direct plea for help to United States Environmental Protection Agency Mid-Atlantic Region Director Cosmo Servidio, who was in Minden for a listening session.
Servidio heard residents’ concerns about the current EPA investigation into whether parts of Minden will be placed on the EPA Superfund National Priority List (NPL).
Placement on the Superfund would allow residents to receive federal funding for clean-up and, as Minden residents have hoped, possible relocation from the community, which has been contaminated by the carcinogen PCBs since the 1970s.
