Developer refutes claims of adverse environmental, health impacts of data centers

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — The developer of two independent data centers currently being planned for construction on the defunct Twisted Gun Golf Course property near Wharncliffe, as well as at the Harless industrial Park near Holden, contends there is a great deal of misinformation being spread over the establishment and potential future operation of these facilities.

TransGas Development owner and CEO Adam Victor, whose company is spearheading the projects, contends the misinformation — if not a lack of information — currently being advanced is specific to what he believes are overstated claims of environmental and health impacts on the surrounding communities.

The facilities — together known as the Adams Fork Energy project — are anticipated to obtain all necessary permits by later this year or early next year, becoming fully operational by late 2026 or early 2027.

Critics of the development maintain the data center/power plant complexes will result in harmful by-product gases being emitted that will adversely affect air quality — particularly for those with chronic breathing problems living in proximity to the sites.
