CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Del. Brandon Steele, R-Raleigh, will not serve as chair of the West Virginia House of Delegates Standing Judiciary Committee for the upcoming regular session, Speaker Roger Hanshaw announced Friday.
Del. J.B. Akers, R-Kanawha, will instead lead the committee, and Del. Jordon Maynor, R-Raleigh will serve as vice chair.
“After recent conversation with Del. Brandon Steele and in recognition of his need to spend more time focused on matters outside the Capitol building, I’m pleased to name Del. J.B. Akers as our Standing Judiciary Committee Chairman for the 87th Legislature while Del. Jordan Maynor will ably step into the Vice Chairman position,” Hanshaw said in a statement. “Del. Akers has acclimated quickly to the legislative process and has shown a thoughtful approach to consensus-building that will serve us well.”’
