BECKLEY, W.Va. — The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis has revealed just how much individuals spent on average on personal consumption items.
According to the data, per capita, Americans spent $40,878 in 2017 on consumption expenditures such as housing and utilities, health care, gas and food and drink outside of the home.
In West Virginia, that figure was more than $6,000 less with residents of the Mountain State spending a total of $34,758 per capita on consumption expenditures including $5,149 per capita on housing, $2,857 on food outside the home, $1,082 on gas and other energy goods.
