MARTINSBURG, W.Va.  — Members of the Communications Workers of America Local 2105 joined union members throughout West Virginia on the picket lines at midnight Saturday as their contract with Frontier Communications expired.

“We’re in this for the long haul,” Chris Bird, president of Local 2105, said Monday in a telephone interview. “We’re not going to give up. Whatever it takes. We’re ready. We wouldn’t go out if we weren’t ready.”

Local 2105 includes about 66 members in Berkeley and Morgan counties and about 12 in Mineral County, he said. Bird works as a cable splicer in Keyser. He has worked for Frontier for 19 years. There are about 1,500 CWA members in West Virginia who work for Frontier.
