HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — County representatives throughout West Virginia attended the fall County Commissioners’ Association of West Virginia (CCAWV) Board of Directors meeting in Huntington on Sunday.
The meeting, hosted at DoubleTree by Hilton Huntington, discussed the association’s priorities to focus on during the 2024 legislative session.
The association represents county commissioners throughout West Virginia and meets quarterly to discuss issues facing the counties.
“These meetings also provide a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas on issues like EMS, fire protection, paying for rising health care costs and the jail bills and other challenges facing commissioners,” Cabell County Commissioner Kelli Sobonya said in a written statement Monday.
Sobonya said the association’s meetings are imperative for other commissioners to brainstorm off of one another’s ideas, saying she got the idea of the county’s unsafe building ordinance from commissioners at a CCAWV meeting in the past.
The meetings are hosted in different parts of the state to educate other commissioners on the different counties, said Tammy Tincher, Greenbrier County commissioner president and CCAWV president.
