HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Just 18 months after Buzz Foods of Charleston announced it had acquired Huntington-based S.S. Logan Packing Co., the company has closed the Huntington facility.
“This was not our original plan,” said Buzz’s owner Dickinson Gould. “Our intention and hope was to grow business and employment in the Huntington area, but unforeseen circumstances forced us to change our plans.”
Gould said “major” equipment and facility failures at the Huntington location led to the decision, which was approximately 10 days ago.
“The costs of repairs (was more) than anticipated, so we made the decision to consolidate all deliveries, inventory distribution and meat processing to our Charleston area location,” he said. “We will continue to serve our customers in all of our market areas.”
Gould said there has been a temporary interruption in getting Cavalier retail products on store shelves.
