MARTINSBURG, W.Va.  — WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center took the wraps off its new Heart and Vascular Institute that will provide a wider range of cardiac medical care to patients in the Eastern Panhandle in an outdoor sign unveiling ceremony at the hospital Monday.

Part of the WVU Heart and Vascular Department in Morgantown, the institute will provide local inpatient and outpatient heart and vascular care for patients in the surrounding Eastern Panhandle area.

Anthony P. Zelenka, president and CEO of Berkeley Medical Center, said the idea for a heart and vascular institute started in January 2009 during a conversation with Albert Pilkington, president and CEO of what was then called West Virginia University Health East.
