HANSFORD, W.Va. — Aidan’s Antics’ Second Annual Softball Tournament and Activities in the “Race Against Time to Cure Sanfilippo” is set for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15, at Elswick Fields, Hansford.
The event honors 6-year-old Aidan Holcomb, who was diagnosed in March 2017 with a rare genetic condition called Sanfilippo Syndrome Type A (Mucopolysaccharidosis III). Aidan’s Antics is a non-profit 501(c)3 established to help fund the search for a cure.
“Unless there is a major medical breakthrough, Aidan will likely not live to see adulthood, statistically an early death between the ages of 10-20. Over the next few years, his mental and physical capacities are going to slowly deteriorate as the toxins in his body attack his organs, and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about that right now to stop nor slow the progress,” organizers said. “So many people have never heard of Sanfilippo Syndrome, which is why there are no treatments, only a few small clinical trials that are financially supported by dedicated parents and generous donors.”
In addition to the softball tournament, the list of activities includes live musical entertainment featuring: Gabe Dixon & Whiskey River Band; Makenna Hope; JawBone; Ricky Cooper; Willie D & No Regrets; Pantry’s Party; and Thoz Guyz.
There will also be a 5-K walk and free kids activities, including in inflatables.
