WHEELING, W.Va. – West Virginians needing to vote absentee for the Nov. 5 general election may request a ballot application now.
Applications became available this week, and can be requested until 5 p.m. on Oct. 30.
But Erin Witchey, coordinator of elections in Ohio County, suggests voters who know they will vote absentee to request their applications as soon as possible. This is especially necessary if the voter lives outside the area.
Witchey explained that in the days leading up to the primary election, Ohio County election officials received a large number of absentee ballot voting applications just prior to the deadline that was six days before the election. Some of the requests came from as far away as Florida, and there was concern they couldn’t receive their ballot in time to vote and have their ballot postmarked prior to Election Day.
“This gives us time to send ballots to whomever is requesting them,” Witchey said. “We urge voters to get applications in as early as they can.”
