625 new W.Va. businesses open in October

Berkeley County, W.Va., sees 49 new businesses open in October

MARTINSBURG, W.Va.  — Berkeley County recorded the third most new businesses opening in West Virginia during October, according to a report released Tuesday by the West Virginia secretary of state’s office.

Berkeley County added 49 businesses and lost 10 for a net increase of 39. There were 4,484 businesses in Berkeley County at the end of the month, which is third most of West Virginia’s 55 counties.

Statewide, 625 new businesses opened and 135 closed for a net gain of 490 for a total of 75,773 businesses in the state at the end of October.

In Jefferson County, 20 new businesses opened and five closed for a net gain of 15. Jefferson County had 2,724 businesses at the end of October.

Morgan County saw four new businesses open their doors, while three closed for a net increase of one. At the end of the month, there were at total 699 businesses n Morgan County.

Kanawha County recorded the most new businesses with 84, but 21 businesses went out of business for a net gain of 63. At 10,243, Kanawha had the most businesses of the state’s counties.

Monongalia County had the second mot new businesses at 52, while 15 closed for a net increase of 37.

Monongalia County had the second most businesses at 6,436.

Barbour and Roane counties recorded no new businesses in October. They had 485 and 484 total businesse respectively.
