NUTTER FORT, W.Va. — The Youth King and Queen of the West Virginia Black Heritage Festival will be crowned at Saturday’s Kick-Off Luncheon that begins 11 a.m. on Saturday at Clarksburg City Park in Nutter Fort.

Youth King Jarrod L. West and Youth Queen Myya Brooke Helm will also receive a scholarship award for 2017 at the event, along with other recipients.
Miss West Virginia Tamia Hardy will also attend the luncheon.
West is the son of Jarrod and Amber West. He is a Notre Dame High School graduate. In addition to being an outstanding athlete — leading Notre Dame varsity basketball team to their first-ever state championship this year — he has excelled academically, graduating with high honors.
His extra-curricular honors include captain of All-State basketball team, tutoring younger students and volunteering in the community. He is a member of Connecting Point Community Church in Clarksburg and participates in school masses.
West is attending Marshall University majoring in physical therapy and sports medicine.
Helm, daughter of Lamont Helm and Amanda Cahill, is a high honor graduate of Doddridge County High School. She is an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and involved in various community volunteer activities in addition to many extra-curricular activities at her school.

Helm is enrolled at West Virginia University majoring in biology. She plans to continue postgraduate studies in the field of medicine.
Other scholarship recipients are: Maleehah Saab, WVU; Jada Ford, Fairmont State University; Talinda Barnett, WVU; Kevin Hairston, W.Va. Institute of Technology; Noah Bohanna, Fairmont State; James “J.T.” Harris, Potomac State College of W.Va.; Blake Davon Cooper, WVU; Deon Agnew, Potomac State; Justin Lee, Salem International University; and Julius Ty Lockett, Pierpont Community and Technical College.
