WVPA seeks silent auction donations for Convention 2016; program benefits scholarships, internships

Regional gifts add flavor to WVPA annual event

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Press Association is seeking support from its member newspapers and all regions of the state for the annual WVPA Foundation silent auction.
Funds raised at the silent auction — along with funds from other donations and revenue — help the Foundation support projects such as educational programming, paid internships and scholarships.

“The silent auction is a success because our member newspapers collect items from their unique regions of the state,” said Don Smith, executive director. “In the past, our member newspapers have collected items from  their local CVBs, B&Bs, associations and other tourist and destination businesses. It’s a great taste of  West Virginia and chance to promote areas, businesses and events.  Items such as gift baskets and regional golf and overnight stays are very popular silent auction items.

The WVPA requests that each newspaper contribute at least one item to the silent auction. Numerous businesses, private facilities and organizations also donation to the Foundation event.

Those interested in donating can email or call WVPA at [email protected] or 304-342-1011, ext. 161.
