MARTINSBURG, W.Va. —Officials encourage residents to be cautious this holiday season — whether it be while shopping or before leaving on a holiday trip — and offered tips to help reduce the possibility of being a victim of these crimes.
Robberies, thefts and burglaries are often crimes of opportunity. According to police with the City of Martinsburg, these crimes tend to increase during the holidays.
Berkeley County Sheriff Curtis Keller said the department sees an increase in all crimes during the holiday season. In addition to thefts, burglaries and robberies, the county also sees an increase in depression, suicide and domestic incidents.
