BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech’s interim president Dr. Gerald Lang believes Generation Z students (Gen Zers) are impacting recruitment for most colleges and universities due to higher levels of social anxiety.
The Chronicle of Higher Education reported in “The New Generation of Students,” Gen Zers grew up entirely in the era of smart-phones and social media, meaning they see technology as an extension of themselves with respect to how they communicate, manage friendships, consume information and learn.
“They expect a high-tech educational and campus experience but don’t want to live entirely in the virtual world. And they may need more support in the way of personal development than their predecessors did,” the report stated.
