West Virginia addiction experts talk counseling shortage

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — West Virginia’s opioid crisis is far from over and the resources — both human and monetary — for fighting it in the Eastern Panhandle are in short supply, according to experts.

Those are the two conclusions from a panel of 25 Berkeley County medical, education and law officials at an opioid roundtable discussion held at the Shenandoah Community Health Center Thursday.

“We’re seeing the root of the problem — addicted adults,” said U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., who attended the conference on the second day of his Eastern Panhandle tour.
